Dominus Press Set to Publish The Yellow Trumpet by Chinedu Philip Onoyima

Dominus Press will publish its inaugural acquisition, The Yellow Trumpet by Chinedu Philip Onoyima, on August 1, 2026.

A psychological and crime thriller, the novel was inspired by the enigma surrounding terrorist attacks in the very remote and disconnected parts of Nigeria. It is set between Enugu and Agu, where the search for one thing leads to the discovery of another.

Onyeoma suddenly quits his job at a refinery after a squabble with his boss and a fatal accident. He leaves Enugu for Agu, hoping to find meaning for his life. In Agu, Onyeoma meets unimaginably harsh life conditions without network access and clean water supply, coupled with the mounting threat to life by insurgents. The only reasonable choice is to leave the village, but Onyeoma stays.

In his bid to help the community, Onyeoma becomes a teacher, a philanthropist, and a detective. Onyeoma helps solve the unclean water challenge and builds a security alert system, becoming the darling of the village until a natural disaster turns him into a pariah.

Onyeoma, once in search of life's meaning, finds love after a difficult breakup in his past. Will this love endure? In the end, Onyeoma is left with new discoveries about love and the internality of the insurgency that was thought to be an external threat.

This thriller of a novel reveals the realities of life under banditry and terrorist attacks in the most remote corners of Nigeria. It lays bare the fact that terrorists do not work in isolation but with intelligence from indigent members of the communities being attacked. Coming from the author's experience living in such areas, the novel is rich and convincing.

Onoyima writes with the exactness of an age-old storyteller in this unflinching story, giving the reader a vivid experience of the characters’ lives. Each page bears witness to Onoyima’s mastery of the craft of writing. The Yellow Trumpet comes with intriguing plot twists and ends with a resolution that also teaches the most important actions in fighting insecurity.
